Nicolai Pfeffer

Clarinetist

Nicolai Pfeffer "presents strong dynamic contrasts, richness of colour, sensitivity and passion", sums up The Clarinet, and DER SPIEGEL also recently raved about the "colourful and iridescent clarinet sound of the highly virtuoso clarinet player". Among the younger generation, „the clarinet poet Nicolai Pfeffer“ (la Repubblica) is already in considerable demand, at home and abroad, as a soloist, chamber musician, and a teacher of students at an advanced level.

In addition to his extensive artistic activities, he dedicates himself with great interest to the new edition of chamber music and solo compositions for clarinet, which, along with his own arrangements, have been published by such renowned music publishers as G. Henle Verlag and Breitkopf & Härtel. Radio, CD and television recordings as well as concerts in the most important halls in Germany and Europe round off his activities as a musician. His discography now includes the Brahms clarinet sonatas (Deutsche Grammophon), Mozart and Weber concertos (Novantiqua) and other highly acclaimed concert and chamber music recordings. Nicolai Pfeffer studied with Ralph Manno, among others, at the Musikhochschule Köln and is now a sought-after teacher himself. He currently teaches at leading universities in Europe: the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, and as a substitute the Zurich University of the Arts. Pfeffer is also a sought-after juror at national and international clarinet and chamber music competitions.
