Competition Format
The competition consists of a Preliminary Round and a Final Round, both performed live.The Preliminary Round will be performed with piano accompaniment.
Final Round Theme: HaydnAll selected finalists will perform the first movement of a Haydn Cello Concerto (No. 1 or No. 2), accompanied by chamber orchestra at the Andermatt Concert Hall.

Age Categories
Age is determined as of January 1 of the competition year.
Preliminary Round
Group 1 – Junior (under 14 years):Two contrasting worksProgramme duration: maximum 10 minutes
Group 2 – Pre-College (14–18 years):Two contrasting works from different musical periodsProgramme duration: maximum 13 minutes 👉 Recommended:One movement from a classical concerto
Group 3 – Young Artists (18+ years):Two contrasting works from different musical periodsProgramme duration: maximum 15 minutes 👉 Required piece:One movement from the following list of cello concertos:
Saint-Saëns – Cello Concerto No. 1
Lalo – Cello Concerto in D minor
Haydn – Cello Concerto in C major
Haydn – Cello Concerto in D major
Tchaikovsky – Variations on a Rococo Theme
Schumann – Cello Concerto in A minor
Dvořák – Cello Concerto in B minor
Prokofiev – Sinfonia Concertante
Final Round
All selected finalists will perform:
Haydn – Cello Concerto (No. 1 or No. 2) First movement
