Pianist Lora Vakova-Tarara was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and began playing the piano at the age of six. She graduated with distinction from the National School of Music for Gifted Children “Dobrin Petkov” and later completed her Master’s degree with distinction at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in the class of Prof. Eckart Heiligers.

A prizewinner of numerous international competitions—including the Schumann–Brahms Competition, “Hopes, Talents, Masters,” the Marguerite Meister Music Prize, the Kiwanis Competition and the Swiss Chamber Music Competition—she is also an award-winning collaborative pianist, receiving prizes at the International Vasco Abadjiev Violin Competition and the George Enescu Violin Competition.​​

Together with violinist Stefan Tarara, she has released acclaimed recordings with ARS Produktion featuring works by Bloch, Ravel and Enescu.
